**LYORN**
Lyorn is a resurgent nation situated on the southern coast of Ganath, facing away from the known reaches of Gryth and looking out into the empty horizons of the far south. Because of its geographic orientation, it remains a land of mystery to most, with the majority of external knowledge coming from the scattered accounts of passing traders or the battle-hardened warriors of Garwald. For centuries, this ancient land was overrun by warring troll tribes, but the shifting tides of a great war that swept Ganath a hundred years ago forced the trolls into smaller, isolated pockets. This power vacuum allowed the ancient, long-displaced families of Lyorn to resurface and begin the arduous process of reclaiming their ancestral territory.
The humans of Lyorn are a unique people, distinguished by inherited physical traits and arcane bloodlines that set them apart from any other population in Gryth. They possess a striking, burnished skin that glows with a copper-like sheen, paired with pale eyes that manifest in a wide spectrum of unusual colours. These people carry within them ancient bloodline traits imbued with a strange temporal magic, granting some individuals the fleeting, unpredictable ability to see into the future or the distant past. The origins of these gifts are entirely lost to time, seemingly tied to the very earth of Lyorn rather than any known elven or celestial influence, and they persist as a haunting remnant of the ancient glory the restorationists seek to reclaim. The most striking manifestation of this magical heritage appears as physical attributes that develop as a Lyornite matures. Many possess orange, tattoo-like skin markings that form intricate patterns across the head and chest, pulsing with a faint inner light when their bloodline magic is stirred. In more extreme cases, these traits take on animalistic qualities, such as the growth of thick, majestic manes or lithe tails, lending the locals a predatory and regal silhouette. In the sprawling ruins of Great Maikesh, these "marked" individuals are often seen as living links to the nation's lost history, though the source of their mutation remains a mystery that even the most learned scholars of the restorationist pockets cannot solve.
This unique biology has further deepened the sense of isolation fostered by the coastal mountain range. While the people of Lyorn look like humans from a distance, their copper skin and shifting temporal visions make them appear almost alien to the traders who occasionally breach their borders. This distinct identity fuels the fierce loyalty of the restorationist families; they do not merely fight for the land of their ancestors, but for a bloodline that they believe is intrinsically woven into the stones and ashen fields of their country. Within the pockets of civilization, these traits are celebrated through art and song, serving as a defiant reminder that while their cities may be in rubble, the essence of Lyorn survives within its people.
The nation is physically cut off from the rest of Eastern Ganath and the chaotic expanses of Githwin by a formidable natural barrier: a large, rugged mountain range that stretches from coast to coast. This wall of stone makes entering the area on foot an incredibly perilous endeavour, often deemed hardly worth the risk by outsiders. This secluded geography has resulted in a very distinct atmosphere compared to its neighbours; notably, the wild nature and potent druidic energies that define Githwin do not extend into Lyorn. Instead, the land feels like a separate world entirely, untouched by the greenery and fey influences of the north.
The modern state of Lyorn is defined by deep internal conflict and a fragmented landscape. It is less a unified country and more a collection of interconnected, restorationist pockets working toward a shared dream of ancient glory. While it is formally recognised as a nation by its neighbours, it lacks the central infrastructure, king, or governing council required to function as a true superpower. Instead, the land is a patchwork of reclaimed ruins and untamed, magical wilds where the newly revived populace must wrestle for every inch of ground against the lingering forces of the former troll occupation.
The environment of Lyorn is as volatile as its politics, containing several regions that defy conventional settlement. Large swathes of the interior are dominated by a powerful, rogue fire elemental whose presence has transformed the area into a burning ashen wasteland known as the Endless Flame. Furthermore, a sprawling woodland controlled by a dark sorceress stands as a grim barrier to expansion; this forest is populated by blood-red trees and haunted by dark powers that reside within its shadowy, suffocating depths.
Despite these dangers, the spirit of restoration persists at Great Maikesh. Once an ancient ruin, this sprawling site has been occupied by human settlers who have made their homes within the rubble of the once-great city. They live amongst the decaying stone and fallen monuments, slowly picking through the remnants of their heritage to rebuild a life in the present. Lyorn represents a desperate, noble, and often violent attempt to resurrect a dead past in the face of a harsh and unforgiving modern world.
