**LOCATION - Gryth - Auken - Prosperia**
**PROSPERIA**
Prosperia is a western nation in Auken that has rapidly risen to prominence on the global scale, primarily due to the meteoric growth of its capital, Treston. Outside the bustling industrial and commercial sprawl of the capital, the country remains a largely wild and rugged environment, characterised by vast pine forests, thick grasslands, and rolling hills that give way to imposing mountain ranges. The climate is traditionally temperate, experiencing warm, pleasant summers and biting winters. In the furthest reaches of the north, the weather turns significantly harsher, housing the town of Kingseye. This northernmost settlement serves as a peculiar port known for the illicit trade of dark magical artefacts, a reputation many attribute to its proximity to the mysterious and unsettling Ancient’s Island.
Despite its rapid modernisation, Prosperia maintains a remarkably harmonious relationship with its eastern neighbour, the wood elf kingdom of True Sylvaria. While the two nations are separated by the vast waters of the Deeplake, which serves as a peaceful conduit for the movement of peoples, they also share a significant and porous land border where the Prosperian pine forests merge into the ancient elven woods. Unlike the aggressive logging interests seen in Durdany, Prosperia’s forestry and mining operations are managed with a level of diplomatic care that respects elven territory, often resulting in joint patrols between Prosperian rangers and the wood elves. This friendly alliance has allowed Prosperia to flourish as a bridge between the ancient magic of the wild woods and the burgeoning industrial future of the west.
Prosperia operates without a central king or a unified system of governance, leaving the nation’s power remarkably decentralised. The vast majority of the country's political and economic energy is concentrated within the walls of Treston, where the city’s influence is so great that Treston guards are frequently seen patrolling far beyond the urban sprawl, extending their reach to surrounding villages and towns to maintain a semblance of order. Elsewhere, power is held by local interests; the northern port of Kingseye is ruled with an iron grip by a powerful trade family, while the far-western settlement of Shathfield is governed by influential fishing organisations that manage the coastal wealth.
This lack of interest in nationwide control has created a power vacuum in the wilder stretches of the country, leading to increasingly dangerous roads and the rise of various criminal organisations. While the major hubs are relatively secure, the vast pine forests and mountain passes between them are often left to the whims of bandits and shadow syndicates who thrive in the absence of a national army. For the common traveller, Prosperia offers the allure of rapid industrial opportunity in Treston, but the journey through the untamed interior requires a sharp blade and a watchful eye, as the "law" rarely extends beyond the sight of a town's walls.
