Over three hundred years ago, this land was known as the fertile Gannat Valley, a prosperous region populated primarily by Gnomes and dotted with mostly small human villages. This peace was shattered approximately 280 years ago by an accursed event that birthed a virulent spiritual rot. The corruption spread with unnatural speed, decimating the entire valley in less than five years and transforming a vibrant home into a stagnant wasteland of death. To prevent the rot from consuming the continent, Archmages from across Gryth were summoned to weave colossal magical seals, effectively quarantining the basin and containing the darkness within. Strangely, all record of the initial cause of the curse has been lost or sealed, and those who have searched for answers usually meet a gruesome end… Today, the region is a desolate expanse of grey mists and ghostly grasslands, inhabited by a relentless population of ghosts, vampires, and wandering undead. The spiritual decay has warped the land so thoroughly that it has become a magnet for dark and evil entities seeking refuge from the light. At the southern edge of the moors lies the ruins of Redyorn, once the largest human settlement in the valley. It is now infested with such profound dark power that it has been renamed The Broken City. The sheer concentration of necrotic energy within its shattered walls has led many scholars of the arcane to believe that a lich has taken up residence there, orchestrating the movements of the dead from its shadowed heart. Due to the extreme danger posed by the corruption, travel into the Deadmoors is strictly banned by the four surrounding nations: Prosperia, The Heartlands, the Kingdom of Whitemist, and Eldvale. This international prohibition is not merely for the safety of travellers but to protect the integrity of the containment. Despite the strength of the original enchantments, dark magic is known to leak through the seals at certain lunar junctures. This is particularly frequent during the Blood Moon, when the corruption swells and spills into the surrounding borderlands, often resulting in undead incursions or sudden outbreaks of magical blight in nearby villages. The only two official exits from the basin, Graveway Passage and the Silent Road, are permanently barred. These thresholds are not maintained by common soldiers but are guarded by a secretive arcane order dedicated to the preservation of the seals. These sentinels stand watch over the heavy, rune-carved gates, ensuring that nothing—living or dead—crosses the threshold. Beyond the two known roads, there are hidden paths through the mountains known to elite adventurers. The Deadmoors has also been named as one of the Eight Blights by the Salenian Church; areas in Gryth that have had holy crusades declared against them. While the moors remain a silent, rot-filled graveyard, the constant vigilance of the surrounding kingdoms serves as a reminder that the Gannat Valley's ancient curse is a threat that Gryth has yet to truly defeat. ![[image 1.png]] ![[image 2.png]] ![[image 3.png]] ![[image 4.png]] ![[image 5.png]] ![[image 6.png]]
