## Overview
Lyorn is a resurgent nation situated on the southern coast of [[Continent - Ganath|Ganath]], facing away from the known reaches of Gryth and looking out into the empty horizons of the far south. For centuries, this ancient land was overrun by warring troll tribes, but a great war that swept Ganath a hundred years ago forced the trolls into smaller, isolated pockets. This power vacuum allowed the ancient, long-displaced families of Lyorn to resurface and begin the arduous process of reclaiming their ancestral territory.
The nation is physically cut off from eastern Ganath and [[Region - The United Wildlands|Githwin]] by a formidable mountain range stretching coast to coast. This natural barrier makes entry on foot incredibly perilous and has resulted in a distinct atmosphere — the wild druidic energies of the north do not extend here.
## The People of Lyorn
The humans of Lyorn are unique in all of Gryth, distinguished by inherited physical traits and arcane bloodlines:
- **Copper-like burnished skin** that glows with a metallic sheen
- **Pale eyes** in a wide spectrum of unusual colours
- **Temporal magic** — some possess the fleeting, unpredictable ability to see into the future or the distant past
- **Orange tattoo-like skin markings** that form intricate patterns across head and chest, pulsing with faint inner light when bloodline magic is stirred
- In extreme cases, **animalistic qualities** develop — thick majestic manes or lithe tails, lending a predatory and regal silhouette
The origins of these gifts are entirely lost to time, seemingly tied to the very earth of Lyorn rather than any known elven or celestial influence. Within the restorationist pockets, these "marked" individuals are seen as living links to the nation's lost history.
## Geography & Dangers
### The Endless Flame
Large swathes of the interior are dominated by a powerful, **rogue fire elemental** whose presence has transformed the area into a burning ashen wasteland.
### The Dark Forest
A sprawling woodland controlled by a **dark sorceress**, populated by blood-red trees and haunted by dark powers within its shadowy, suffocating depths. Stands as a grim barrier to expansion.
### Coastal Mountains
The mountain range separating Lyorn from eastern Ganath makes the nation feel like a separate world entirely — untouched by the greenery and fey influences of the north.
## Great Maikesh
Once an ancient ruin, this sprawling site has been occupied by human settlers who have made their homes within the rubble of the once-great city. They live amongst the decaying stone and fallen monuments, slowly picking through the remnants of their heritage to rebuild a life in the present. The "marked" individuals — those displaying the strongest bloodline traits — are celebrated here through art and song.
## Political State
Lyorn is less a unified country and more a collection of interconnected restorationist pockets working toward a shared dream of ancient glory. While formally recognised as a nation by its neighbours, it lacks central infrastructure, a king, or a governing council. The land is a patchwork of reclaimed ruins and untamed magical wilds.
